We Interrupt Our Regular Programming….

I’m a bit behind on my posting…and I apologize. Does your life ever get a tad off schedule, or knocked off kilter, or completely off course?

I think we ALL can identify with THAT! haha!

What do you do when that happens? Do you shut down, take a step back and regroup, run off in a completely different direction than the one you were heading in before? Me, I research.

When life isn’t working out the way I thought it should, or something happens that knocks me off track for a few days, I tend to go into research mode. Not every time, sometimes I can just pick up where we left off and keep moving forward. But other times, I need (or think I need) a fresh start. A better system, better tools, etc. So I hit Pinterest and research. haha!

I’m a bit of a planning and organizing nerd (in case you’ve missed that so far in our journey together). I love to research and create new systems and tools that help me feel like life isn’t REALLY so far out of control. Implementing them works ok usually too…it’s the sticking with it long term that is the issue. Anyone else?

I mean, I can have the latest and greatest system but still not make any visible progress toward the goals and dreams that God has for me.

This past week we’ve been talking about new adventures as a family, the possibilities, the what ifs, the pros and cons. All that thinking takes up a lot of time. So does research. But…have we spent as much time praying about it as we have researching and talking about it?

Why do we so often go to prayer as a back up plan? Or an item on our checklist for a good life?

What can we do (I do) to make prayer more of a priority? What have you found to be helpful for you? I’d love to chat! Share with us in the comments!

ps Stay tuned for more info on our adventures coming up soon!

Book Report: Educating the WholeHearted Child By Clay & Sally Clarkson

Homeschool is one of those things that I said that I would NEVER, ever, ever, ever…(you get the point) do…along with network marketing. Yep, enjoy the laugh. haha!! #eatingmywords #andlovingit #yumm

The more research I do, the more I’m feeling called in this direction. I have several wise women around me who have been homeschooling for years. I asked them to pray for our family as we look into this option for our kids. One of these ladies suggested that I read this book. And because Amazon is always at my fingertips…and I’m a #bookaholic I ordered it asap.

You know what’s funny, these ladies I mentioned above…they’re the same ones that got me into network marketing too…and I’m SO thankful!!! I’ve been blessed to have fallen into the perfect gig/ministry on my first try! #comfortzonesarebadforyourhealth

SO, here we are researching, praying and talking to everyone we know who homeschools trying to make a decision. I absolutely love what the Clarkson’s are doing in this book, showing the biblical foundations and answering questions.  Basically mentoring you along your journey to decide if homeschooling is right for your family. They also provide a simple path to follow to get started with lots of resources and tips along the way.

We are still in the process of making a final decision for our family, and I’m nowhere near finished with this incredible book, but I look forward to finishing it soon. I know that, as my friend said, with this book and a lot of prayer (and some input from friends who’ve been there) we’ll find our way.

I’d appreciate prayer as we make this decision and would love to hear any tips you may have, positive experiences you’d like to share, or just some encouraging words on the subject. Comment below!

Book Report – Epic Faith by Marty Meyers

“An epic is a long narrative poem or story that includes a hero. The hero of God’s story is Jesus, and he invites us into his narrative by faith. When we come to the cross of Christ, our story dramatically changes and becomes pregnant with epic potential. Our lives become a beautiful tale of transformation, renewal, goodness, life, and profound love. With Jesus as the central hero, our story will glorify God and reflect his character. The plot of a life fully surrendered to and focused on God reflects a passionate pursuit of his dreams for us.” pg 3

“God has planted dream seeds in your heart, and in the following pages you will find courage to trust the One who can nourish those dreams into life.” pg 3

One of my goals this year is to read one book a week, on average. I thought it might be fun to share what I’ve learned with you, so this is the first of many. Enjoy!!

Even though I grew up going to church and accepted Christ as my Savior many years ago, I’ve always struggled with fully trusting Him. I know it sounds crazy, especially since I’ve had a pretty calm and good life. Maybe it is BECAUSE of that reason that I struggle with faith. My faith has never really been tested.

Reading Marty’s book was eye opening for me. Through stories of YWAM mission trips to India, financial struggles, and forest fires Marty tells a story of faith being tested…and the faithfulness of God. I lost count of the tears that fell, the goosebumps that rose and the moments of awe at watching God work in their lives and ministry as I read their story.

This book showed me that testing will come (as much as I don’t want it to) AND that God will be faithful through it all. It also showed me that the blessings on the other side will be so worth the testing! God has given us each a purpose, one that only we can fulfill. He has also promised to provide what we need to accomplish His purpose for us…even though it may look differently than what WE have imagined. Growth cannot happen in comfort zones, and without growth we die, physically and spiritually. Full reliance upon Him is what we need to do, it is a place where we are rooted and spend all of our time. Fully centered on His presence…something that I think we can all improve on. I know I can!

Remember it’s not the size of our faith that matters (or our belief in ourselves or our abilities) it’s the size of our God that matters.
