We Interrupt Our Regular Programming….

I’m a bit behind on my posting…and I apologize. Does your life ever get a tad off schedule, or knocked off kilter, or completely off course?

I think we ALL can identify with THAT! haha!

What do you do when that happens? Do you shut down, take a step back and regroup, run off in a completely different direction than the one you were heading in before? Me, I research.

When life isn’t working out the way I thought it should, or something happens that knocks me off track for a few days, I tend to go into research mode. Not every time, sometimes I can just pick up where we left off and keep moving forward. But other times, I need (or think I need) a fresh start. A better system, better tools, etc. So I hit Pinterest and research. haha!

I’m a bit of a planning and organizing nerd (in case you’ve missed that so far in our journey together). I love to research and create new systems and tools that help me feel like life isn’t REALLY so far out of control. Implementing them works ok usually too…it’s the sticking with it long term that is the issue. Anyone else?

I mean, I can have the latest and greatest system but still not make any visible progress toward the goals and dreams that God has for me.

This past week we’ve been talking about new adventures as a family, the possibilities, the what ifs, the pros and cons. All that thinking takes up a lot of time. So does research. But…have we spent as much time praying about it as we have researching and talking about it?

Why do we so often go to prayer as a back up plan? Or an item on our checklist for a good life?

What can we do (I do) to make prayer more of a priority? What have you found to be helpful for you? I’d love to chat! Share with us in the comments!

ps Stay tuned for more info on our adventures coming up soon!

Book Report: Educating the WholeHearted Child By Clay & Sally Clarkson

Homeschool is one of those things that I said that I would NEVER, ever, ever, ever…(you get the point) do…along with network marketing. Yep, enjoy the laugh. haha!! #eatingmywords #andlovingit #yumm

The more research I do, the more I’m feeling called in this direction. I have several wise women around me who have been homeschooling for years. I asked them to pray for our family as we look into this option for our kids. One of these ladies suggested that I read this book. And because Amazon is always at my fingertips…and I’m a #bookaholic I ordered it asap.

You know what’s funny, these ladies I mentioned above…they’re the same ones that got me into network marketing too…and I’m SO thankful!!! I’ve been blessed to have fallen into the perfect gig/ministry on my first try! #comfortzonesarebadforyourhealth

SO, here we are researching, praying and talking to everyone we know who homeschools trying to make a decision. I absolutely love what the Clarkson’s are doing in this book, showing the biblical foundations and answering questions.  Basically mentoring you along your journey to decide if homeschooling is right for your family. They also provide a simple path to follow to get started with lots of resources and tips along the way.

We are still in the process of making a final decision for our family, and I’m nowhere near finished with this incredible book, but I look forward to finishing it soon. I know that, as my friend said, with this book and a lot of prayer (and some input from friends who’ve been there) we’ll find our way.

I’d appreciate prayer as we make this decision and would love to hear any tips you may have, positive experiences you’d like to share, or just some encouraging words on the subject. Comment below!

Health Tip: Low Carb…Is it good for you?

Low Carb diets are all over the place, and many folks have had much success with them, myself included. BUT are they good for your health?

I know that for me, eating low carb caused me to feel sluggish, blue and unmotivated after a while. Which of course means I gave up on eating that way and gained back some of the weight I’d lost. Completely defeats the purpose, right?!

Every body is different and we all have different needs nutritionally. What I’ve found works best for ME, what helps me to make forward progress on my health journey, is to switch it up a little every once in a while.

I believe that God provided a variety of foods for a reason. One reason is as I mentioned above, that we all need different things nutritionally. Part of that is based on blood type, part of it on country of origin, and a few other things as well. Another reason that I believe He provided such a variety is because we were meant to enjoy as many kinds of things as possible.

Now don’t get me wrong, moderation is still a key factor. Don’t go all crazy with your Brussels sprouts and arugula now ok? (p.s. that is a joke) 🙂

I LOVE me some protein and (good) fat rich foods, bring on the butter, cheese, bacon, coconut oil, etc. Yumm!! But I know that my body needs a variety, it needs veggies of all colors and sizes, it needs carbs too.

Carbohydrates (carbs) are used for energy in our bodies. This is why when we go “low carb” for too long our bodies get sluggish and tire more easily. It can also cause our bodies to not know how to handle carbs when we introduce them back into our diets, which can result in additional weight gain caused by inflammation.

The key is to make sure that the carbohydrates we are putting into our bodies are good ones. Ones that provide slow burning energy, great nutrition and steady blood sugar levels. We don’t need to spike those levels because that sets off a chain reaction in our bodies that actually increases our fat stores…ain’t nobody got time for that!

To get rid of fat our bodies need to be allowed to alternate fuel sources, fats and carbs. This helps keep the body guessing on what is coming next and actually helps to force the body to burn stored fat as fuel when done correctly.

So what are good carbs anyway?

Here are a few that I keep on hand:

  • Whole Grain Rice
  • Quinoa
  • Steel Cut Oats
  • Old Fashioned Oats
  • True Sourdough Breads (whole wheat)*
  • Sweet Potatoes

*a true sourdough has been fermented, it helps to “eat up” some of the inflammation causing parts of the grain.

A few years ago I stumbled upon something called Trim Healthy Mama, they explain in their plan book how all of this fuel switching works as well as how to best combine foods, etc. They also have a recipe book as well. If you like the sciency stuff behind the why’s of the plan then definitely get the THM book and read it.

Once you get the general idea of the plan (I talk about it a bit in my eBook that you can get for free by signing here) you can pretty much run with it. I follow the plan loosely along with my regular supplements and exercise (also mentioned in the free eBook) and am loving the freedom it gives me to enjoy all of the food groups and still make progress and feel amazing!! Food freedom!!

Book Report: Rich Dad’s Business School for People Who Like to Help People by Robert T. Kiyosaki

If you’re wondering how to make some extra money, maybe even achieve financial and time freedom, you need to read this book.

If you’re thinking about getting another job to make ends meet, you need to read this book.

If you’ve already done pretty well financially, but want to diversify a bit, you need to read this book.

Reading this book has been an education, it’s only about 125 pages long, but full of great advice, tips, and direction. Mr. Kiyosaki shares several different ways to increase wealth and build a financial future, and points out the pros and cons of each. He also gives ideas on what to look for in an opportunity.

“Business Mindset” is something that has been a challenge for me, but thanks to this book and my hubby (he’s read several of Mr. Kiyosaki’s books as well) my mindset is changing for the better. I’m excited about what I learned here! I love that this book has also helped me to be reminded (again)  about how blessed I am to be part of the company that I’m with. All of the values (things to look for in an opportunity) that he lists, our company does a phenomenal job with and I’m so thankful! God has truly blessed us!!

Health Tip: Is Clutter Keeping You From Reaching Your Health Goals?

I am super excited to have my friend Jill Whaley (The Fifteen Minute Mom) helping me out this week with our health tip!! She has a gift for you at the end of this post, you won’t want to miss out on that!! Be sure to follow her blog as well for more tips!!

Here’s Jill!

You might be thinking, “Yeah right! My house clutter has NOTHING to do with my health.” I’m here to tell you there might be more to this idea than you ever dreamed! There was a time in my life when I felt totally overwhelmed by just about everything. My house was a mess, my car was a rolling Goodwill, my paperwork was a nightmare, my eating was out of whack, my sleep habits were wonky at best, and my exercise routine was non-existent. Then a friend introduced me to an amazing resource by Marie Kondo: The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up. My friend showed me her neatly organized drawers and closets with EMPTY SHELVES! When I sat down in her living room to visit with her, I felt so calm and collected that it really was like magic!

Inspired and encouraged, I drove home, bought the book on Audible since there were 437 people in line for it at the library, and I began implementing the system right away.

Chaos reigned.

For a few days anyway. Then the magic began to happen in my house too. Everything had a home. I found what ideas in the book worked for me and developed several new systems that serve our family’s needs well. Over a year later, much of my house still stands as it did after that initial decluttering session!

Then… I started going to the gym. For real! Why? I had more time to prioritize things that were important in my life: healthy eating, sleeping, and exercise. Family time. Relationships.

Clutter is a sneaky beast that feels safe and comfortable but is silently robbing you of life and joy!

Now we do periodic decluttering sessions and set some guidelines for our home.

Number 1: if you bring something new home, something old goes.

Number 2: junk mail never makes it past the front door. It is deposited in the outdoor trash can before we come inside.

These type of simple-to-remember rules cut down on a significant amount of clutter so that when we do declutter, it’s done in a matter of minutes instead of hours. Keeping our home clutter free has given me the time and ability to focus on our health goals and has freed up time to spend exploring nature with my girls.

Suggestions for beginning the process:

1. Physical clutter and mental clutter are connected. Write down everything on your “to-do” list on a blank piece of paper. Do a brain dump!

2. Set a timer! You will do MORE in LESS time if you are focused and keeping track.

3. Clean out and organize according to category rather than by room. For instance, focus on just the spices in your kitchen at one time instead of unloading all the cupboards at once. This allows you to stop and start, accomplishing much in short periods of time!

4. Go into this with the mindset of letting go. Strive to let go of ANYTHING that does not serve an immediate purpose in your life or does not bring you joy.

I would love to walk with you step by step through your first month of decluttering. Here is a free copy of my Clear the Clutter ebook with 31 days of specific (mostly) 15 minute activities that will help you go through your home top to bottom. When you are ready to simplify your stuff and increase your free time, download it here: I hope you’ll take the Clear the Clutter Challenge and set the stage for a healthy life, home and mindset! Blessings,

Jill Whaley
